Fiber Optic Jellyfish Lights: Saudi Park Project Case Study

Fiber Optic Jellyfish Lights: Saudi Park Project Case Study

In September 2026, our leadership team organised a hands-on product training session in the Night Watcher Lighting showroom in Zhongshan, China. The subject was the two products behind our 2025 Saudi park lighting project — fiber optic jellyfish lights and RGB addressable light strip. Every tree along the park's lit walkway carried our fixtures, and the team spent the day working through how they are specified, colour-controlled and installed.

Fiber optic jellyfish lights and RGB addressable light strip are the two products used in the 2025 Saudi park lighting project. By training the team on a delivered project instead of a catalogue page, our sales, engineering and after-sales colleagues stay aligned on the details buyers actually ask about — fibre length, light source, voltage, control protocol and installation position.

Why Train the Team on a Delivered Project?

Most product training starts with a specification sheet. Ours started with the site itself. A project that has already been manufactured, shipped and installed gives us something a catalogue cannot: real photographs, real installation constraints, and real feedback from the crews who handled the fixtures.

From a catalogue photo to a fixture you can hold

The session put both products in the team's hands. Colleagues lifted a pendant, counted the fibre strands, compared the 80 cm and 60 cm versions side by side, and watched the light source move through its gradient. Several team members are new to outdoor decorative lighting, and direct contact answers questions that a datasheet leaves open — how the fibre falls, how much the fixture weighs in the hand, how much light actually reaches the ground.

Two products, two very different control logics

The most useful part of the session was not the products themselves, but the contrast between them.

One product — the fiber optic jellyfish pendant light — is an internal-control fixture. Its RGB bulb cycles through its gradient by itself once powered, with no external controller in the system: one mains connection per pendant and nothing to program on site.

The other product — the RGB addressable light strip — is a programmable system. It runs on 24 VDC and uses the 2811 / DMX512 protocol, so it can be addressed, sequenced and synchronised to a show or a music track through an external controller.

That distinction is what allows our team to answer a buyer's question correctly the first time, instead of promising a programmable effect on a fixture that simply cannot do it.

Inside the Showroom Session

Walking around the display tree in the showroom, the team worked through the practical questions that arrive with almost every enquiry:

  • Where does each fixture hang? The jellyfish pendants suspend from branches, so the fibre hangs free and keeps its shape in the air. Hanging point, weight and wind movement all matter.
  • Where does the strip run? The RGB strip is most effective along trunks and structural branches, where it accents the tree's form instead of competing with the pendants.
  • How is colour coordinated? The pendants cycle through a gradient on their own, while the strip can hold a fixed colour or run a moving program. Making both read as one installation is a design decision, not an accident.
  • What does maintenance look like? Fibre strands need protection in transport and careful handling during installation.

These are the details that decide whether an installation matches the render the buyer approved.

How the Two Products Worked Together in the Saudi Park

The site was a public park in Saudi Arabia, and the brief was simple to describe: light the trees, and let them become the landmark. Every tree along the main walkway carried a canopy of jellyfish pendants, with the RGB strip tracing the trunk and main branches.

The result is a two-layer lighting effect:

  1. A moving canopy. The jellyfish pendants rely on their internal gradient bulb, so the whole canopy shifts colour together without any programming. The site photographs show the same trees reading purple in one shot and green in another — identical fixtures, a different moment in the cycle.
  2. A structured trunk. The RGB addressable strip runs in continuous lines along the trunk and branches, giving each tree a defined form and a controllable colour layer beneath the canopy.

The Gulf market also means strong UV, fine dust and year-round heat. Fixtures for this region are selected for outdoor exposure and for a 220–230 V, 60 Hz mains supply — the 220 V version of the jellyfish pendant is the specification used for this project.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a fiber optic jellyfish pendant light used for?

It is an outdoor decorative pendant that combines a fiber optic skirt with an RGB light source, creating a soft jellyfish-like shade. Park and streetscape projects use it to light tree canopies without a visible fixture dominating the view. The Saudi park project used it on trees along the main walkway.

What is the difference between the 80 cm and 60 cm jellyfish pendant light?

The two versions share the same light source, voltage and lead wire. They differ in diameter and fibre length: the ZXD-038-04 measures 80 cm with 240–260 fibre strands of 90–100 cm, while the ZXD-038-03 measures 60 cm with 240–260 strands of 70–80 cm. Larger crowns suit tall park trees; the smaller version suits lower branches and denser groupings.

Does the RGB light strip need an external controller?

Yes. The RGB addressable light strip runs on 24 VDC and uses the 2811 / DMX512 protocol, so it needs a suitable power supply and controller to run scenes or synchronised effects. The fiber optic jellyfish pendant light does not — its RGB bulb is internal-control and cycles on its own.

Can the fiber optic jellyfish light run directly on local mains power?

The version specified for this project is 220 V with a 3 m lead wire, matching the 220–230 V, 60 Hz supply used across the Gulf market. Buyers in other regions should confirm the required voltage with our team before ordering.

Can these products be combined on the same tree?

Yes, and that is how the Saudi park installation was built: jellyfish pendants in the canopy and RGB addressable strip along the trunk and main branches. The two layers are controlled differently, so colour planning should be discussed at design stage rather than on site.

Do you supply these products for park and municipal projects?

Yes. Night Watcher Lighting supplies outdoor decorative lighting for park, streetscape, resort and festival projects, and supports OEM and ODM orders as well as batch customisation. Send us your tree layout, installation height and colour intent, and we will return a specification and quotation.

Looking Ahead

Training on a delivered project changed the way our team talks about these two products. Instead of describing shapes and colours, we now start with the site: what the tree looks like, how high the canopy sits, where the power arrives, and whether the client wants a fixed colour or a moving show.

If you are planning tree lighting for a park, plaza, resort or festival, our team can help you choose between the 80 cm and 60 cm fiber optic jellyfish pendant, size the RGB addressable light strip for your trunks and branches, and confirm the control method before production starts. Contact us with your project details, or browse more outdoor decorative lighting for related solutions.
